TIPS for your Senior Session
* Avoid wearing perfume/cologne on the day of your shoot and opt for bug spray instead! Outdoor photography involves using areas that are sometimes very buggy.
* If you have your heart set on wearing those adorable wedge sandals or classy heels, I advise wearing a comfortable pair of slides or no-tie shoes/sneakers and bringing the cute shoes separately. We often do a good amount of walking on uneven terrain that makes walking in heels tough on the feet and, quite frankly, dangerous.
* It's always a good idea to bring water, especially on super hot days!
*Speaking of hot days...if you're wearing any type of makeup, bring it along with you in case we need to touch-up, especially on those super hot days.
*Remember your fingernails! I do take some close-ups that often show your hands. If you have dirt under your nails, I can't fix that. I have fixed things like chipped nail polish or missing (fake) nails but making these types of edits is very time consuming so try to be mindful of having clean finger nails and a clean manicure or simply take the polish off.
*Along the same lines as the fingernails, remember to remove any hair ties or string tied bracelets from your wrists if you (or your mom) don't want them in your pictures.
* Remember to brush your teeth before your session! I know this sounds like common sense but these are seniors who have a lot going on and they're often rushing to get ready and shoving food in their mouths on their way out the door. No food stuck in your smile is always a good thing!
*It is always a good idea to bring a comb and even product to help with flyaway hairs (especially for the girls or folks with longer hair) as any slight wind will wreak havoc on those tiny fly-aways as I am shooting and the less I have to photoshop out of your images, the better! Honesty, consider shampooing your hair the day before your session so your hair is not "too clean."
*Plan your outfits ahead of time, including your sports uniforms! Be mindful of your undergarments (especially for my girls). Pictures show ev-ry-thing. So, decide the best undergarments for your outfit to minimize any occurrences of severe panty lines or bra straps showing.
*Colors you may want to avoid: Green (outdoor backgrounds often have a lot of green), fluorescent anything (I know the 80's are making a comeback and I'm a big fan...except with respect to portraits), and Black (only because it shows every little piece of lint, dog hair, etc.)
*Bring along a copy or email me your Kindergarten picture and I will incorporate it into one of your senior images!
*Have hobbies? Do you play a sport or an instrument? If it's portable, feel free to bring any props with you that you'd like incorporated into your images. I've had everything from instruments and sports equipment to apples and books to a favorite pair of beat-up sneakers!
*Most importantly, BE YOURSELF!! Relax and enjoy! Not everyone gets excited about posing for pictures but almost everyone comes out feeling better about it than they did before we began. I promise, I won't make you smile the entire time!
*Do you wear glasses?? I am just shy of legally blind without my glasses but glasses are not always picture-friendly. If you have contact lenses, I would highly advise wearing them for your session as opposed to your glasses. If you wear glasses all the time and you want them in your pictures, that is totally fine so long as you understand that, if they do not have a reflective coating, there may be limitations when taking pictures to avoid having your eyes covered by a reflection. The eyes are the windows to the soul and I always want the eyes to be clearly visible whenever possible.
*If you want pictures done on one of your school fields, make sure you get permission ahead of time and we have access to the field as many fields are locked when not in use.
*If we are doing sports images, remember to bring your uniform(s) and all your equipment to use for props. That means uniform or t-shirts, balls, helmets, lacrosse sticks, cleats, gloves, hats, etc. ... whatever applies.
